Rhinophyma Treatment

Rhinophyma is the enlargement (hyperplasia) of the sebaceous glands located in the connective tissue and skin of the nose. The skin of the nose is thickened, bumpy, with large pores and may take red color; the nose becomes enlarged, bulbous, and lumpy in appearance.
This condition is more common in men than women. 
How Is the Surgery Performed?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
The aim of this surgery is to remove the overgrown connective tissue in the area of the nasal dorsum and alae and to restore an esthetic appearance to the nose. The tissue excess during the surgery is removed by radiosurgery. 
What Should Be Known After Surgery? 

  • The dressings should be changed every 2–3 days. Special dressings (polyurethane foam or hydrocolloid) are used; 
  • The wounds may heal from 3 to 4 weeks; 
  • The incisions should remain dry during showering or bathing; 
  • The scars should be protected from direct sunlight and the patient should refrain from solariums for 6 months; 
  • The condition may return.
